What is the value of the y variable in the solution to the following system of equations? 3x + y = 14 –3x + 2y = 1 5 3 y can be any number as there are infinitely many solutions to the system. There is no y value as there is no solution to the system.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer is 3 because if you add equation 1 and 2 together you would get 3y=15 so y=3

hartnn (hartnn):

Add those equations by yourself, what u get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3y = 15 because 3x - 3x is just x right?

hartnn (hartnn):

3x-3x=0 but u are correct about 3y=15 so whats y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = 5

hartnn (hartnn):

u are correct! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you for helping me correct it!

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome :)
