OpenStudy (swissgirl):

hmm well with which problem do u want me to show u the processs

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

hmmm should we be using the quadratic formula or r we factoring?

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

No I will I just need to know which method I should be using the quadratic formula or are we factoring? I have a hunch we have to factor

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

ok So ill do the factoring method and If i get stuck we will use the quadratic formula

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

\( -21x^2-17x+8=0 \) Keep in mind that our equation is in the form \(ax^2+bx+c\) In this particular case our a=-21 b=-17 c=8 Since we cant factor anything our first step will be to multiply a*c So we will multiply -21*8=-168 Now we need to find 2 numbers that when u multiply them it gives you our a*c which is -168 and when you add them will give you our b, which is-17 so the 2 numbers that I have found are -24 and 7 -24*7=-168 -24+7=-17 So now we will replace our -17x with -24x+7x \(-21x^2+7x-24x+8=0\) The next step would be to bracket the first 2 and last terms \((-21x^2+7x)+(-24x+8)=0\) We then factor each bracket separately \(-7x(3x-1)-8(3x-1) =0\) \((-7x-8)(3x-1) =0\) Now we know that since the equation equals zero then either of the brackets must equal 0 -7x-8=0 -7x=8 x=-8/7 and 3x-1=0 3x=1 x=1/3 Therefore our x=-8/7 and 1/3

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

@shjej5835 did u follow?

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

Can u do the next one on ur own?

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

i just guessed. I just totally play around I got 25 and 12

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

\( 20x^2+25x+12x+15=0 \) \((20x^2+25x)+(12x+15)=0 \) \(5x(4x+5)+3(4x+5)=0 \) \((5x+3)(4x+5)=0\) soooo (5x+3)=0 and (4x+5)=0 now solve for x

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

5x+3=0 5x=-3 x=-3/5 and 4x+5=0 4x=-5 x=-5/4 so x=-3/5 and -5/4

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

lol

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

like if u dont understand what i did then u need to begin with easier and simpler examples and thennnnnn it will become second nature

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

lol i am gonna tear soon tooooo. It is sooo late and I am tired. Gnite

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

yw :)
