solve 3x^3-4x=1 please explain step by step please ;__;

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

first subtract 1 from both sides \[\large \implies 3x^3 - 4x - 1 = 0\] now you find factors for this are you familiar with the factor theorem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can't factor with ^3 :(

hartnn (hartnn):

do u know a technique where u can find whether (x+1) and/or (x-1) is a factor of given polynomial ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope

hartnn (hartnn):

add coefficient of odd terms add coefficient of even terms what u get?

hartnn (hartnn):

if u get those equal,then x+1 is factor if coefficient of odd terms+coefficient of even terms=0, then x-1 is factor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be (x+1) .?

hartnn (hartnn):

yup,now can u divide your polynomial with x+1 to get a quadratic equation,that u can solve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH OK I GOT IT
