2x + 2(3) = 5 2x + 6 = 5 2x = -1 x = -1/

If you want to verify then put x = -1/2 in the equation above and check if you are getting left hand side equal to right hand side..
step1: 2x + 6 = 5 subtract 6 on both sides 2x + 6 - 6 = 5 - 6 2x = -1 Step2: divide by 2 on both sides x = -1/2
