A little question: Why is OpenStudy so messed up these days... compared to a month or two back?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

thats what happens when you get older :)

OpenStudy (mattfeury):

The short answer: More people have been coming here, and we've been trying to Rise Up (Falcons Rise Up). The long answer: About a month ago, we began the process of "horizontally scaling." We had seen a lot of new users over the summer (surprising to us), and we had/have big plans for this semester, so we wanted to be ready if a lot of traffic came our way. We made some drastic changes to the site's architecture, and put it out in the wild. It's actually done a LOT for our load problems. The problems the site was seeing in this summer (high memory usage, primarily) are so much better off now. Heh, and then obviously there is the obvious: the new problems. There is one bug that seems to bring our servers down a few times a day. We're actively trying to squash this guy, each day, but unfortunately it is so elusive. It's sometimes referred to as a HeisenBug, if you will. The nonanswer: Our fearless @shadowfiend is in Greece for two weeks, and @farmdawgnation and I have begun installing Bonzi Buddies on our server to play with.

Parth (parthkohli):

Haha, Amistre! Thank you Matt F. That was a very helpful answer. Any estimation for the time all the bugs will take to fix up?

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

No estimation as of yet. I'm aiming to get this one that's bringing the site down a few times a day nailed down soon, but it's a long process because each time we change our diagnostics to get new information we have to do a deploy on the server. :\

Parth (parthkohli):

Hah, I know the feeling ;) thanks!
