The area of a circle (pizza) is pi*(0.5diameter)^2. The amount of ingredients is proportional to the area.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the ratio of ingredients is\[\frac{\pi 18^2}{\pi 12^2}=\frac{18^2}{12^2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The area of a circle is \[\pi r ^{2} = \frac{ \pi d ^{2} }{ 4 }\] The pi and the 4 cancel out so the ratio is just the ratio of the diameters. 18/12 = 8/x, solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, sorry, it should have been the radii, I misread the question.\[9^2/6^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is the ratio of the radii squared, not the diameters.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea sorry about that the squared doesn't drop off but it doesn't matter if you use radius or diameter the ratio is the same. 18^2/12^2 = 9^2/6^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You were right originally, I just misread

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18^2 = 324 , 12^2 = 144 324/144 = 81/36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(\frac{a}{b})^2=(\frac{xa}{xb})^2\] Wow, I never though about that before. Thanks!
