determine h and x
the area will be h*x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so 7xh?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
How do I find h?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
7 is right for x, but you will be 1/2 * x* h
to find h, you need to use pythagoras

pythagorean theorem,
once you realize x=7
\[a^2+b^2=c^2\]
\[7^2+h^2=25^2\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
\[\frac{1}{2} x*h\]
is the area of a triangle
because we're calculating the area of 2 triangles, we can multiply it by 2 thus getting rid of the 1/2

Ok, just got my calculator one second
OpenStudy (anonymous):
sorry i didnt mean x, i meant the base. as in you dont need to use x to find the area of the original triangle but point taken
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hint- 7- 24-25 triangles are a pythagorean triple, although no one actually bothers to memorize this
3-4-5 are common

So 49+h^2=625
subtract 49 from 625?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
\[h^2=625-49\]
\[h=\sqrt{625-49}\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
24
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
then multiple half of 7 (3.5) by 24?

he was referring to the base
it would be either
1/2base*h
or x*h
OpenStudy (anonymous):
24x7 the?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes
