OpenStudy (nincompoop):

how many significant figures does a pi have?

OpenStudy (ghazi):

how much you want??

OpenStudy (ghazi):

lol

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

because you have no patience or you wanted to say it:)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

the number of significant figures depends on which approximation of pi you are using ,

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

in a calculation involving pi, you will have to make an approximation for pi to get a numeric result

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

if we are talting about the mathematical constant pi, and we are not calculating a value , as a pure concept pi would have an infinite number of significant figures

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

pi is not a unit , it is a geometric constant

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

lol

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

i would argue with your professor that in any example where we are making a calculation involving pi that we would at some stage have to substitute pi equals some value say \(A=\pi r^2\) \(r=1\) pi = 3 has a single significant figure so \[A=3\] is correct to one significant figure pi=3.14159265359 has twelve sig figs \[A=3.14159265359\]is correct to twelve sig figs.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

Im pretty sure this was a joke.
