The question I am having trouble answering is "what kinds of material does she draw from the essay? The question I am having trouble answering is "what kinds of material does she draw from the essay?  I know "she" is the student who wrote the journal entry; what does "kinds of material does she draw from the essay" actually mean?

I think "material" means information or ideas. And "draw from the essay" mean a conclusion, her idea about the subject she had studied. (Oxford Advanced learners' dictionary)
