The perimeter is 40 inches so if two of the sides of the rectangle (the widths) are each 6 than we can say that 40-(2*6)=28
That is the sum of the two remaining sides and, since we know that they are equal, that means that the length is 28/2 (which happens to be 14). Hope that helps :)
