Can someone explain to me the difference between active and passive voice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
An active voice is normally when tht subject is actually doing something directly and obviously. The verb comes after the subject. For example: Amy mailed the letter. A passive voice is when the subject is no longer active and is being acted upon. For example: The letter was mailed by Amy.
