factor out a factor with a negative coefficent. -9x+45. -9x+45=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the common factor in all the numbers is 9. So you would factor out -9 -9(x-5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer would be -9x+45

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not too familiar with factoring

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so when it comes to these im lost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no that is the original equation. to factor something out means to take out a common factor in all the numbers. In this case -9*1 = -9 and -9*-5=45 so you would factor out the -9 do you know about distributive property

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kind of vagily yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distributive property states that a(b+c) is the same as ab+ac. If you reverse the process, that's called factoring. So you factor out a. -9x+45, -9 is "a", x is "b", and -5 is "c"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that would mean -9(x-5) is that same as -9x+45, but -9(x-5) is the factored form of -9x+45

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is -9(x-5)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry was away for a bit

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's ok will u help me again with the one i have posted?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure, where is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one more minute and I'm going to bump it to the top

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've got like 26 problems i have to get done before midnight.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok it's at the top.
