The wheel of a bike, with a tire attached, has a circumference of 69.12 inches. If each spoke of the wheel, from the center to the rim, measures 8 inches, what is the uniform width of the tire, to the closest inch?

OpenStudy (shane_b):

By width of the tire I believe they are asking you to determine the distance between the rim and the outer edge of the tire. \[C_{wheel}=2πr=69.12in\]Solve for r:\[r_{wheel}=\frac{C_{wheel}}{2\pi}=\frac{69.12}{2\pi}=11in\]The question tells you that the radius of the rim is 8in So the tire width must be 11-8=3in

so it's 3 inches, bro?

OpenStudy (shane_b):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanx, bro! i'll have to remember this should i come across another problem like this

OpenStudy (shane_b):

np :)
