can someone help me!!!!!!! 5x2+3[2(5-3)+4(4+2)-3] can someone please show me step by step how this is worked out??? thanks in advance
is the problem to evaluate the expression?
yes
we have to apply order of operations for this problem. Do you know the order?
no sir i really don't
Order of Operations 1) Take care of the operations inside the grouping symbols 2) Take care of your exponents 3) Perform mult/div as it occurs left to right 4) Perform add/sub as it occurs left to right
There is an acronym (PEMDAS) that shows the order of operations. When simplifying and evaluating expressions. Do it in the order of Parenthesis Exponents Multiplication Division Addition Subtraction
oh ok thanks you all so much...let me try and work it now
ok what about the brackets
Those are grouping symbols
they act as parenthesis. You do the inner most parenthesis first and then the outer ones afterward.
ok thanks again you all...feeling really slow right now
By the way be careful with PEMDAS This does not mean that multiplication comes before division like for example To do the following we would actually do the division first since it comes first: \[6\div2\times4\] \[3 \times 4\] 12
You would do the multiplication/division depending on what came first reading from left to right
oh cool thanks for the heads up!!!!
both u all deserves a medal how do give u both one
Sadly you can only give one medal out per question.
wow dang!!!
Why m i here then?
My feelings won't be hurt. I really don't care too much about them.
I'm just here to help :)
awwwww thanks so much!!!!! i have gotten lost now or should i say struck
Can you show me/us what you have so far?
5x2+3[2(2)+4(6)-3]
Ok good so far! :)
\[\large{5x^2+3[2(2)+4(6)-3]}\]
Now you have the [ ] And you have multiplication and addition and subtraction inside those [ ] what comes first according to the order of operations we have above?
@mathslover I think she meant that x to be multiplication am I right @connie2hott ?
yes u right mult
5x 2+3 [4+24-3]
Oh yes absolutely right since this is an expression and not an equation and hence according to the law of "guessing" we can absolutely say that x is multiplication and not a variable here... well this was all nonsence ... you may continue... sorry to interrupt but i just thought that it will be easy for you with latex :P \[\large{5*2 + 3[4+24-3]}\]
Yep. Then we inside the [ ] we still have some operations to perform The addition and subtraction. We are looking at the 4+24-3 right now And this equals?
Thanks Mathlover toooooo

No thanks....at this instant concentrate to myin. solution
I think you did 28+3 instead of 28-3
25kmsl
That looks better so that gives us the following expression as of now: \[5 \times 2+3[25]\]
So we have multiplication and addition left According to the order of operations that is some way all the way up there it tells us to do what?
85
Yes! Totally right! :)
thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!! u all help me so much but i really want to thank you myininaya for sticking in there with me <3 <3 means a lot
