Nick's resturant bill totaled $64.20. SHOW HOW TO ESTIMATE 15% OF THE TIP. Show and explain each step.

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

Well, 15% is also 10% +5% 10% of something is just the decimal moved once to the left, so 6.42. We can round this to 6.50 5% is 1/2 of the 10% (which was about 6.50, remember?) so it's 3.25 6.50+3.25 is a $9.75 tip

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or not round it and get 6.42 +3.21

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you two! But, it's asking to estimate the tip. Do I just leave it the way it is or is there a certain way to complete the question with estimating and rounding it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rounding is the same as estimating

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right...

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

I'd leave it the way it is, unless it specifies for you to round to a certain place value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you. :)
