Explain step by step how to find x : 17-(6x+3)=-16 i would normally know what to do . but that subtraction sign is confusing me . .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[17-6x-3=-16\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-(+6x+3) \rightarrow -6x-3\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is an implied + sign before the initial 6x, and this (AND the 3 plus sign) turns to a '-' sign, as everything in the brackets is minused, which reverses the signs.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-(-2x+4-5y+3) \rightarrow (2x-4+5y-3)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-(a-b) \rightarrow b-a\]

Do you understand this? Ask some more if not.

OpenStudy (precal):

do you know how to finish the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uh yes im pretty sure . im going to write this downn and study what you did now thatnks both ! but precal , your way seems easiest .

OpenStudy (precal):

check yourself plug x=5/2 back in and make sure it is the solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one thing , how did you get -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok .

OpenStudy (anonymous):
