What are the restrictions? 3(x - 4)(x + 3) -------------- (x + 5)(x + 4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What would cause division by zero?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The denominator contains two factors, (x+5) and (x+4); if either one of those equals zero, then the whole denominator goes to zero and division by zero is not allowed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So.. what values of x would cause a zero to show up in the denominator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then take each factor separately and set it equal to zero and solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = -5 x = -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's all there is to it. X may be anything else, but is not allowed to be those numbers because that would cause division by zero.
