Suppose three balls start from the same elevation with different initial velocities. Ball A starts from rest, ball B is thrown vertically upward at speed v and ball C is thrown vertically downward at speed v. Which ball has the least speed as it hits the ground.

so we can solve it using energy considerations.. while A only has mgh B and C has mgh + 0.5mv^2 since energy is conserved and for all the balls it converts to kinetic energy (say 0.5mu^2) you can see that A will have the lowest velocity since its energy is the lowest
