You are in charge of setting up a room for an awards banquet at your school. A total of 122 people will attend the banquet. The schoool has tables that seat either 8 or 10 people. No empty seats are allowed. How many of each size table will you need to use to make sure everyone has a seat? Show all your work and explain in WORDS how you arrived at your answer. Pleaseee Help :))

OK. So, this is an example of Diophantine Equations, in which all answers must be integers. Basically, 8x+10y=122, and x and y have to be whole numbers because you can't cut tables in half.

OpenStudy (oaktree):

The only solution that works is x=4 and y=9, because 32+90=122. It really is just guess and check.
