6x^3-28x^2+16x

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

what is the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im trying to find the trinomial factorization

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the correct answer is 2x(3x-2)(x-4) i just don't know how to get it

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

First, find the common factor of all term, \[6x ^{3}-28x ^{2}+16x\] can you tell what is the common factor of 6x^3, 28x^2, and 16x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x right?

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

yes, now you can factor the expression what is the result if you factor out 2x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x(3x^2-14x+8x)

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

yes..., now you should factor the expression in the bracket, can you factroze it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 3x^2-6x^2

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

wait.., I think you did a little mistake before, the last term is 16x, so if you factor 2x, it should be 8 in the bracket so, you should get 2x(3x^2-14x+8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and then what do i do from there

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

to factor \[3x ^{2}-14x+8\] you will separate -14x become ax+bx such that a+b = -14 and ab=3 x 8 = 24 can you find a and b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks!
