OpenStudy (honeymonster):

please help me solve this simultaneous equation... 2x-4y=6 2x+y=8.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try subtracting the first equation from the second equation and see what you get. Can you proceed from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you able to proceed?

OpenStudy (honeymonster):

so 2x-2x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (honeymonster):

so it would give you..6-8.5=-2.5???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (honeymonster):

so x=-2.5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

don't forget the y-(-4y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you subtract first equation from 2nd

OpenStudy (honeymonster):

thank you but how do you work out a value for x?? or cant you??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm suppose to help you through, not to do everything for you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you should be able to divide that

OpenStudy (honeymonster):

i know..i'm asking for you to talk me through it.. :S so i can learn for next time..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now you got y so you can put into either of the equations to find x
