which of the followin is the correct definition for dependent events? a. two events are dependent if they have no outcomes in common and cannot occur at the same time. b. two events are dependent if they have outcomes in common and can occur at the same time c. two events are dependent if the outocme of the first event does not affect the outcome of the second event. d. two events are dependent if the outocme of the first even affects the outocme of the second event.
any ideas? think of the common english use of the word "dependent" as in "it depends on whether it rains or not" meaning one thing depends on the other
no?
In such a type of question we need to take a hypothetical situation. Eg there are 6 ball in an urn and i am to dram two ball without replacement. One more condition is that the balls are of two different colors and I have to draw in such a manner that the second ball is always of my chose (take any two colors lets say red and blue). We have taken this eg for understanding this problem of yours. Now If I dram a ball at random and it is say red, this effects the no of balls in the urn and now there are only 2 red and 3 blue. If my desired ball is blue, I have 2 ways that I can get the blue ball in 2nd attempt. One is when I draw both the ball as blue, one red and the other blue. The order of my drawing effects the urn. Hence both of then depend on which comes first and what is left in the urn.... If this seem tricky then let me know...
thanks guys i got it. :)
