what is momentum?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An objects momentum is the quantity that changes when a force is applied to said object.. In classical mechanics, the momentum is equal to mass times velocity.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

there is also the relationship Impact = change of momentum I = mv - mu impact is measured in Newton - seconds and is defined as a force acting for a given time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sum_{All-masses} m_i *v_i\]

OpenStudy (shane_b):

@cwrw238: I've never seen it referred to as "impact"...I've always seen it defined as "impulse". Was that a mistake or is that an appropriate synonym for impulse?
