The stages of Mitosis: Preprophase - Prophase - Prometaphase - Metaphase - Anaphase - Telophase.

Cytokinesis then occurs after the last stages.

In the first stage of mitosis known as prophase, chromosomes condense and become visible. Towards the end of prophase the nuclear membrane breaks down and the spindle apparatus forms at opposite poles as well. After the stage of prophase comes metaphase.
