what do i do to find x..? 5(x+6)=8 , then i got 5x+30=8x but now what

I would say "I have +5x on the left. If I add -5x to the left side, I will get +5x-5x=0, making the 5x go away. But to keep it an equation I have to add -5x to the right side (keeps things balanced)"

30= 3x
10=x

You could have add -8x to both sides, but it takes longer:
5x+ -8x +30 = 8x + -8x
-3x +30 =0
-3x + 3x +30 = +3x
30= 3x
10=x
