4a +2b = 0 -4a + b = 24 I know that b = 8, but I need help solving for a. 4a + 2(8) = 0, how would I solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4a = -16 Can you solve it now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Chlorophyll Just a moment, I will try. I believe I can.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Chlorophyll a= -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, 4a = -16 -> a = -16/4 = -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

May I ask how you got -16? @Chlorophyll I would have just got 16 by multiplying 2 x 8 but why is it negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4a + 16 = 0 Since you need to switch 16 to the right side, -> the sign needs to be changed from +16 to - 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay, I see. Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anything else feel free to ask :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Chlorophyll Will do!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I forgot to ask if you're confident to find b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Chlorophyll on the previous question? yes, I already found be, i was just not sure about how to find a.
