if two fair dice are tossed what is the probability of obtaining two equal numbers? the possible answers are : "1/36" "1/6" "5/6" "1/4"

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

the first one you toss can be any number of course the probability that other dice has same number as first is 1/6 answer 1/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks man but i thaught that it had some kinf of formula needed to have the answer 1/6... is there any?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

well its just that there are 6 numbers on the dice so the probabilty of getting a 3 say is 1/6

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

iit doesn't matter what number is on first dice - the probabilty of getting same number on second one is 1/6
