Well, before you even do the problem, eliminate the first two choices, because neither have perpendicular slopes. Remember, a slope is perpendicular to another's slope if it is the negative inverse. In this case, the slope of our unknown line must be -9/4. So if we use our point: y = mx + b (3) = (-9/4)(4) + b 3 = -9 + b b = 12 Therfore, the 3rd option is correct: y = -9/4 x + 12
