how do you solve 3x^2y-11xy+8y by factoring?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

start by factoring out the (y\) which is common in all three terms that will give you \(y(3x^2-11x+8)\) then see if you can factor the stuff inside the parenetheses

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess you just have to grind it til you find it it will look like \((3x+a)(x+b)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think \((x-1)(3x-8)\) will work, multiply out and see if you get what you started with

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldn't (x-1) (3x-8) be the answer?
