a toy ball expands and contracts. When it is completely closed, it has a diameter of 15.5. Find the volume of the ball when it is completely closed. Round to the nearest cubic inch.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Volume of a sphere is \[ \frac{ 4 }{ 3 }pi*r ^{3}\]. r is half the diameter.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I understand that but i keep ending up with the wrong answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the diameter given in inches?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm getting 1950 cubic inches how about you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

197.557704

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks, but its wrong...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

198.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, it says its 1949

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It should round up to 1950 but ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1949.816

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since i got it wrong i have to do one similar to this one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same question, but its 13.5 inches for diameter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1288.25

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

they probably said to use (22/7) or 3.14 for pi , thats why their answer is a bit smaller...thus 1949 and not 1950 when you use a longer approximation for pi
