when do you use "como"? Is it applicable for all "how" usages?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You know, I've been thinking about this question for a while, and I do think that "Cómo" is applicable to all "how" usages. I think the only thing you need to pay attention to is the accent. If we DO put on an accent, as in "Cómo," it means, "How." For example: ¿Cómo estas? means "How are you?" But if we DON'T put on an accent, as in "Como," it means "like," or "as." For example: "Yo soy Americano, como tú," means, "I am American, like you."
