For specific programs, you can use many tools for the same thing. here you can use "escape characters" to get the output.

so..a user gives you the number of rows.. and you output that.. the number of & to start with is 2*N-1 where N is the number of rows.Then you use two nested loops and reduce the limit of the second loop by 2 in every repetition of the first loop
