how is windows operating system different from DOS?

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

In many ways. DOS, or Disk Operating System, was a command prompt operating system introduced by Microsoft. You could only run one program at a time, and the entire interface was text-based. Windows, on the other hand, is a graphical operating system. Although for many years Windows ran on top of DOS, it's since become entirely independent. Windows allows you to use multiple programs at once and you interact with icons, buttons, and other graphical elements instead of just text. You can read more on their respective Wikipedia pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS-DOS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows
