Do you understand what significant figures are? As an example, the number 67 is two significant figures. 100 is just one significant figure, but 1.00*10^2 (which is equal to 100) is three significant figures. So the decimal place determines how many sig figs there are. Currently, 2.99792458*10^8 is 9 sig figs
