subtract 4 from each side. then it becomes x/4=x/2-8 then multiply each side by 2. 2(x/4)=x-8 then reduce giving: x/2=x-8 then multiply each side by 2 giving : x=2x-16 move the x over giving -x=-16 pull out the -1 from both sides giving x=16
