*when* do i use dot product in vectors?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do u mean?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

what kind of questions do I use dot product?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

for example..what's the scenario that will tell me that i have to use dot product

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

angle between two vectors?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

work done= F . ds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when two vectors are multiplied there reslut will be scalar then we can use dot/scalar product.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i didn't mean physics application...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know what is scalar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you mean in maths?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually....whenever u have to find a component of a vector along the other vector then we use dot product

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

ahh wait..i think i ahve a hypothesis if two vectors are given and i need the angle between them...then i use the dot product if the x and y components are given...i use arctan is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.....
