If the base of a rectangle is increased by 30% and the altitude is decreased by 1/5 what is the change of the area?

try substituting the new values into A=b*h
ie if we want to see what effect a change in b has on A put in the new value for b (1.3b, in this case) and see what the change in A is...

Why 1.3
30% = 0.3. For a 30% increase you are adding 30% to the 100% that you started with, so 130% = 1.3
