what is the point intercept form and are the different names for this word?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

what word? point intercept form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it y = mx + b ??

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

wait..no..that's different

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Really ??

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

what is the point intercept form o.O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i searched point intercept form but they dont show up! is it called point slope form?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

point slope form: \[y - y_1 = m(x- x_1)\]

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

the closest i can link point intercept form is the two-point formula \[y - y_1 = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1} (x- x_1)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But it is not point intercept lgba..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in point intersept form put m =y2-y1/x2-x1...in equation y=mx +c...

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

slope-intercept form: \[y = mx+ b\] point-slope form \[y - y_1 = m(x- x_1)\] two point form: \[y - y_1 = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1} (x - x_1)\] intercept form: \[\frac xa + \frac yb = 1\] any of those ring a bell?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pallavi is right in my view..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so point slope form and point intercept form mean the same thing??

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

...i don't think they are...

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

intercept is a point...slope isn't

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yaaa,....kind of....its just rearrengrment...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im so lost><

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

when you say point intercept im thinking this Find the equation of the line with points (1,2) and (2,0) in this case, the point is (1,2) and intercept is (2,0) so you use \[y - y_1 = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1} (x-x_1)\]

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

however, i have never heard of "point intercept form"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so doesnt that mean y-y1 = m(x-x1)??

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yes..kind of

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

two point form is just the expanded version of point-slope form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the words are slope-intercept form and point-slope form.......there is no word like point intercept form

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

@lsugano this "point slope form"...is it a term that was *mentioned* by your teacher?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just mailed my teacher and she made a "mistake" she meant by slope intercept form...UH thank you so much for your kindness!! i hate my math teacher

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

interesting

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

a teacher made a mistake...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i agree to u Igbasallote

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i cant believe it . but thank you so much for your help everyone!
