A.) The width of a rectangle is x centimeters. Represent the lenghth of the rectangle if it exceeds twice the width by 3 centimeters B.) If a plane travels 550 kilometers per hour, represent the distance it will travel in h hours.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What math operation means to exceed (make more)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And for (B) What operation do you think you'll need to use there if it's 550km for each of h hours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(By operation, I mean: +, -, ×, ÷)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can i draw a picture for you?

|dw:1347132928698:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cliff: multiplication?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and ariellllllll so how do i solve that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right. (For part B)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is nothing to solve. It is merely asking for a representation / an expression.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@CliffSedge but i dont know what im supposed to write...i have to show work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, so length = 2x + 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

unless it told you the area or perimeter, I really can't help you there, darling. Sorry. But I suppose you would just draw what I did?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks ariel!!!! @CliffSedge im so confused on what i have to write

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What if it was 550 km per hour for 2 hours, how could you find the distance?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

550 x 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its just 500h?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right, but it said that it was for h hours. It's using h to represent any number. If h=2 then it would be like you wrote, but since it's just h, do the same thing but with h instead of 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, distance = 550h.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks guys!
