What is the solution of the system? Use elimination. 3x – 4y = –24 x + y = –1 A. (–4, 3) B. (0, 6) C. (3, 4) D. (4, 3)

OpenStudy (radar):

To use elimination we first must choose which variable to eliminate. Which one do hou choose, the x or the y?

OpenStudy (radar):

*hou is you

OpenStudy (radar):

Either one may be chosen. The one chosen will be algebraically manipulated so that the coefficient will of both will be equal.

OpenStudy (radar):

@chicagochica5 , do you want to learn how to solve this problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the answer A?

OpenStudy (radar):

It may be, but I would need to work it out, but I need the variable you wish to eliminate (x or y) to do that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does it matter what one you eliminate?

OpenStudy (radar):

No, but you need to eliminate one, to solve the other!

OpenStudy (radar):

I would pick the variable that has opposite signs. That way simple addition will eliminate it. Which variable in those two equations has opposite signs?

OpenStudy (radar):

Have you used the elimination method before?
