But to do the problem, notice that PQ is the slanted side of the big triangle.
they tell you the up side of the big triangle is 9
so
PQ/9 is a good start
now look for the slanted side of the little triangle, It is 12
and the up side of the little triangle is 6
12/6 slant/up of the little triangle

set up the ratio
PQ/9= 12/6
solve for PQ

of course 12/6 is 2
PQ/9=2
multiply both sides by 9
PQ*9/9= 2*9

9/9 is 1, and PQ*1 is PQ
PQ= 18
