Find all positive and negative integers b such that 7x^2+bx+5 factors. B= (use comma's to seperate answers)

@Shi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you should start by using the quadratic formula, though I think there might be a better way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what's the better way?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take the factors of 7 and 5 and mess with them to get all the possible b's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the only factors of 7 are 1 and 7 and the only factors of 5 are 1 and 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how would i list that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answers are 12, -12, -2 and 2 I think. check if that's right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12, -12, 36, -36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

36 doesn't work try factoring it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7x^2 + 35x + x + 5 7x(x+5) + 1(x+5) (7x+1)(x+5)

I don't think I've had this problem before but http://www.algebra.com/algebra/homework/Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/Polynomials-and-rational-expressions.faq.question.177236.html shows you how to get your solution
