Can someone explain to me how it is possible to determine an answer for this question? http://i.imgur.com/ahpPs.jpg The waterslide one, I've had a go at it but there simply does not seem to be enough information (equations etc) to get answers. Any ideas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you talking about 16?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The one underneath, Analysis Question 1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use tan theta= h1/ 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and \[h1= \sqrt {l^2-25}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In order to use trig, you need an angle, but there is no angle listed in this question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

coordinate of A is (16,0)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer section in the back of the book states it is (15,0)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm...wait a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how come this cubic equation has got two roots only??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let's say coordinate of A is (x1,0)...your cubic function will be (x-0)(x-8)(x-x1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but at x=0 value of cubic function is h1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the function is (x-h1)(x-5)(x-x1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now i am realising ...this question is really a good one :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lgbasallote where are you...come here ..have some fun

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

someone called?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea me....check out the question and help to figure this out ...please

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

sorry. i hate math...i have no idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i had been seeing that...you have solved mathematics for most of the time ...but it's fine....if you don't wanna get in to this

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i seriously do not have any idea. i'm just a primary school student.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool...
