How was the agricultural system organized during the Zhou Dynasty?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
Agriculture was based on a grid system - plots of land were arranged in a grid and assigned to farmers who served under a lord, similar in a way to the European feudal system. The middle plot was harvested for the government's granaries as a kind of emergency stockpile. The rest would be left for the farmers to use.
