i've never seen this notation before
inf=infimum
it is defined here for those who are interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infimum

yw :) in this case the inf would indeed be 2, but I am not sure how you would /formally/ prove this? maybe you can just show that: 2 <= 2 2 <= 5
