Rising Anxieties as France Prepares for Budget Cuts That's the article im doing for my essay but what can the US do to help this? This is my analysis so far: President Francois Hollande was a socialist leader who was recently elected by the French people. President Francois Hollande won the election on the basis that he would not cut too many social services. The French nation has a tremendous amount of debt. Like most of Europe, the French need to reduce their deficit. However, if they do reduce their deficit, then this will mean that there will be less money to spend for social services. The French people, however, want to have the social services in place. The president, Francois Hollande is now facing a very difficult situation of trying to devise a budget whereby he will reduce the French deficit by 3 percent. If the French are able to reduce this deficit, this will make them in an economically strong position. However, if President Hollande is unable to accomplish this result, this means that the French economy could spin into a very bad position like some of the other countries in Europe including Greece, Spain, and Italy. In Greece, Spain, and Italy, these countries are facing a tremendous amount of economic difficulties because they have such large budgets and deficits and are unable to generate the necessary revenues to pay off these tremendous deficits. This has a potential of causing a big economic crisis in Europe. People are very worried that if there is an economic crisis in Europe, this could spread to the rest of the world, including the United States. President Hollande has instituted 3 percent cuts and he is claiming that these 3 percent cuts will not affect the rest of the social services that are provided to the people. He has accomplished this by closing off tax loopholes. This means that large corporations, in effect, will have to pay more money in taxes. Therefore, while he is cutting the deficit, he is also raising taxes on large French corporations. Hopefully his plan will succeed because if it doesn’t it can lead to economic and social unrest.
