20+x <6x-15

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

subtract x from both sides first...what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-20

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

huh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it -x

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

what?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

subtract x from BOTH sides..not just the left side

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

you subtract x from the right side too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get 20-x

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

first... what is 20 + x - x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

right. and what is 6x - 15 - x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i show my work can you write it out for me

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

how did you get 7??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i combined the like terms and then subtracted it by the 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you write it out for me please so i can know how to show my work properly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20+x <6x-15 subtract x from both sides 20+x-x <6x-15-x 20<5x-15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks i have another question as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question isnt even finished....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i kno am i going subtract 15 now from both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i ment subtract 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

... you do neither of those.... you want to isolate x so you want to get rid of a -15 this means adding 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add 15 to both sides right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20<5x-15 +15 +15 is this how it suppose to look when i show my work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the 15 cancels out right so now you have 35< 5x and you divide both sides by 5 right which would leave you x=7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wrong x>7 x is greater than 7 is very different from x equals 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay thanks alot can you help me out on a couple others

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9x - 3(6 – 5x) = x – 2(3x + 9)
