a.what is wayne's speed?
b. ehat is mary's speed?

m = marry's speed

Nary travels at twice the speed of wayne
-> m = 2w
Mary is 18 miles ahead of wayne.
-> 2w*t - w t = 18
=> 3 ( 2w - w ) = 18

assume mary's speed = 2x and that of wayn's is x
lets say they travel a distance m in 3 hours

but difference of their distance is 18

mary - wayne = 18

2x(3) - 3x =18
gives x = 3, plug x = 3 to get marys speed
