Explain the difference between solving 2x<7 and solving -2x<7?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hint: if you divide/multiply both sides of an inequality by -1, you have to flip the signs does that help?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

or do you need more help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need more help.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

let me give you an example \[3x > 6\] here, i just divide by 2..and get \[x > 2\] now... when i have \[-3x > 6\] i have to divide by 2 \[-x > 2\] AND divide by -1..now if i divide by -1, i hve to flip the inequality signs so.. \[x < -2\] do you see it now?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

when i say divide by 2 i mean divide by 3...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I get it..

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

wonderful
