OpenStudy (anonymous):

is one of the fresh water filamentous green algae, characterized by the presence of spiral chloroplast.

OpenStudy (hanah):

can u give me more information about it @starwardd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure, glad to share what i have, we can find these filamentous algae in our yard ponds. plz don't confuse this with branched algae. spirogyra is characterized by unbranched filaments, can be view clearly in light microscope at 10X. The filaments are made up of single cells connected at end. one of the pioneering study in photosynthesis-light spectrum was done with this algae. it is easy to grow and study in lab also, so it is one of the organism in several important studies happened in plantbiology.
